Candid Conversations about: Women in Design

ABC Women in Design x

According to the 2020 Census, 50.9% of the U.S. population was female, while the remaining 49.1% was male. This means that the female population made up 168.8 million people, while the male population made up 162.7 million. The 2020 Census also showed that the U.S. population reached 331,449,281 people.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that in 2019, 25% of the 208,000 people working as “Architects, except naval” in the United States were women. Importantly, the BLS does not distinguish between licensed and non-licensed practitioners (“apprentices and trainees”). By comparison, NCARB reports that there were 113,554 registered architects in the United States in 2017, so the BLS figure of 208,000 counts many aspiring architects who are pursuing licensure, as well as those who are not working towards a license.

Join us for a conversation exploring the experiences, challenges, and perspectives of women in architecture.
