This session explores the evolving standards and cultural context of gender-inclusive and universal restroom design. Led by California State Architect Ida Clair, FAIA, and design leader, Julia Weatherspoon, AIA of Gensler, the session will combine code-based guidance with real-world case studies to illustrate how inclusive design principles are being applied across diverse building types. Participants will gain an understanding of current code developments, design best practices, and the broader national and cultural conversations shaping the future of equitable restroom access. Through this session, attendees will learn how inclusive and universal design can create safer, more welcoming environments for all users while meeting accessibility and compliance standards.
